Susan Came Home For a Week!

Susan came home on the morning Amy left, sort of.  Her plane was due to arrive in Albuquerque that day, anyway.  It didn't actually get there until early the next morning.  Needless to say, after waiting and waiting for that late flight, we were all tired, tired tired.

Packing up quilts for Project Linus to drop off when we are picking up Susan in Albuquerque.

The Dad took the day off so he could spend a little more time with Amy, and so we could go over to Albuquerque early to pick up Susan.  We went to the Museum of Albuquerque to see a "permanent" exhibit about Ernie Pyle.  It turns out that the exhibit was just one of his old typewriters.  There is a much better exhibit in the Ernie Pyle Library.  This is about the best thing that we saw.  We could tell what it is.  That is good.  Lots of the art was, well,  interpretive.

This is rosemary that was in bloom in front of the museum.  I think that was my favorite part.

We took in an Isotopes game!  The Isotopes finally pulled it out at the end of the 10th inning.

By the time we left the airport, it was after 1:00 in the morning.  We were tired!  Susan had ONE LONG DAY of traveling.

Of course, we had to repeat the Diet Coke/Mentos thing for Susan.  It was still great!  It got us all ready to see Old Faithful.

One of our favorite passtimes.... driveway fishing!

The perfect cast.

Very relaxing, and not at all stressful.  You don't have to worry whether or not you're going to get a bite!
The one thing Susan said she wanted to while she was home was eat at Alicia's...

...so of course, we did!

Susan came and read to my class and helped out every afternoon she was here.  The kids love her.

On Friday, she played Chutes and Ladders with one group during Centers Time.

Our recipe for the week comes from the "...BBQ" book.  This time we made Orange Sesame Chicken.  We thought it would taste something like Polynesian Chicken.  It didn't.  The chicken was good, but the noodles with sauce was definitely not as good as Polynesian noodles.  The chicken was a "Nailed It" but the noodles were a "Failed It."  In the recipe's defense, though, it didn't mention putting the sauce over noodles at all.

The dad is packing up the bikes so we can ride them on our big adventure ahead.

We had Stake Conference while Susan was home.  We walked in to  the chapel, and we saw Mr. Hornick standing there!  We went to see him, and he said as of three weeks ago, he was "Brother Hornick!"  What a shock!  He said that after watching LDS kids for 27 years, (our girls being some of those kids), he wanted to look into the LDS culture to see what made those kids they way they were.  He went to a sacrament meeting, read the Book of Mormon, and took the missionary lessons.  It all fell into place for him!  Wow!  We had him over for dinner.  Susan made Hungry Man Stew from the "101 MORE Things to do with a Slow Cooker" book.  It was a good, basic slow-cooker stew!  Mr. Hornick stayed and talked for a long time that evening.
