Mary Poppins!

So, the Broadway version of "Mary Poppins" came to Popejoy Hall.  Hooray!  I've been wanting to see it for quite some time, and finally it was here where we could see it!  Sadly, though, the Dad is in Atlanta this week, so he wasn't able to join us.

Brian, Chelsea, Susan and I got tickets, and we all went to see it this Saturday.  I thought it was going to be a stage adaptation of the Disney version of "Mary Poppins."  It was quite different.  There were many of the same characters,  and some adaptations of some of the songs, but all in all, it wasn't the same at all.  It took me a while to get used to that idea.  But once I did, I enjoyed it a lot.  The sets were amazing.

I find it interesting that different events are starting to provide photo-op spots more and more.

After the play was over, we went out to dinner with Carol and Mark at Souper! Salad!  Doug and I are on a...  I hesitate to use the word "diet," as we're not actually dieting, but we're trying to adopt a healthier eating lifestyle.  (So far he's lost 8 lbs. and I've lost 6.)  We're eating the Food Pyramid daily food and serving size recommdations.  Susan is even doing it with us.  She hate a lot of junk and fried foods at camp, and she said she could definitely tell that she feels better when she eats better.  Anyway, we ate at Souper! Salad! and I still was able to stay on the eating play that we've made.  I felt pretty good about myself.  The dad is in Atlanta, and he said he's still working hard on eating appropriately, as well.  Not only has he lost a few pounds, but he's been able to lower the amount of insulin he has been taking.  Hooray!  Hopefully it won't be too long until he can reduce it even lower, if not stop it altogether!

Our Baby Girl is a Missionary!

Sunday, (June 10) was Amy's Missionary Non-Farewell in Sacrament Meeting.  She gave an adorable talk, which was chock-full of Amy personality!  She has gotten to be a wonderful speaker, and I thoroughly enjoyed her talk.  (From the amount of crying I did, I'm sure you wouldn't think I was enjoying it, but I was!)

Bishop Mowrer called each of the boys up to bear their testimonies, and then Doug spoke. Susan even led the music.  It was a beautiful Sacrament Meeting.

We were blessed to have our whole family there.  In addition, Carol and Mark came, and so did Jay and Rosanna.

We had a big spread after church.  The family that came for the non-farewell all came, and so did the McMullins, which to us are just like family.

President Mortensen came over and set Amy apart as a missionary.  Amy has included some of the things that Pres. Mortensen said in her blog.  Thanks, Angela, for thinking to write those things down.

The Flannerys just so happened to be in town this week.  That was great timing!

Here are Steve, Angela and Amy ready to head back to Provo.  They will take her to the MTC on Wednesday.  My baby girl is a missionary!

Another Good Weekend!

Steve and Angela came down from Provo for Amy's Mission Non-Farewell, and to take Amy back to Provo to the MTC.  They came on Friday night, so we were able to have a couple of fun days before they had to head back up North.  I love it when the kids come home!

Ahhhh!

I love hiking.  We got up early Saturday morning and hiked the Strawberry Trail near McGaffey.  We went up to the fire tower.

You can't tell from the pictures, but the wind was blowing like crazy.  Susan found out that she's extremely afraid of heights if the wind is doing it's thing.

The dad has been working on his "Man Quilt" project for awhile.  He bought some old tents at a thrift store and cut them apart and sewed them together to make a wind barrier for our dining fly.  (I took his Man Quilt to my quilt club last night and showed it off.  The ladies were very impressed and thought it was a very clever idea.  They were even more impressed that he sewed it himself!

On Sunday, Brian and Chelsea, and more family came over for Amy's big day.  I'll cover that in another blog!

Our Trip to Albuquerque to be with Brian and Chelsea at a Special Time!

Another wonderful weekend.  We were blessed to be able to go to the Haines Ward for church today.  Brian and Chelsea invited us so that Doug could ordain Brian a High Priest.  Brian was sustained today as the second  counselor in their ward. 

It is a gratifying thing for parents to watch their children grow and make good choices that allow them to be worthy for the Lord to entrust them with challenges such as this one will be for Brian and Chelsea.  When I say "challenges," I don't mean it as an adversity, but as an opportunity to grow.  Brian and Chelsea, you are great assets to your ward, and we are happy to see you keeping your covenants every day!

We went to Advengers while we were in Albuquerque.   Wow!  what a fast moving couple of hours!  Great movie!

While we were in town, we also went to see Grandpa, and we went to the Albuquerque Temple to do a session.  We also listened to Calico Joe, by John Grisham in the car on the way there and back.  I like John Grisham, and I like baseball, so this was a great book for me!

Next weekend should be another good weekend!
