Our Family in August

August 2024

This is my First and Second Grade Class!

We went on a hike at McGaffey, but it started to rain right before we cooked hot dogs for dinner, so we brought them home and cooked them!

These are pictures from the hike while we were there.

I've been getting my hair highlighted to hide the gray.  It also keeps aliens from reading my mind.

We did a box of chile.  We bottled a dozen half-pints, and froze the rest.

We decided to give a try at making our own apple vinegar from the wormy apples that feel from our trees.  The dad cut the bad parts out, and we used the rest!

It actually worked.  Four weeks later, we have some delicious apple vinegar!

Stuffed Zucchini

We picked some golden plums from the trees at the church and some crabapples from my friend, Betsy Vigil's house and made jelly.

All the pictures on this post went in backwards even though I used Chelsea's hack for getting them to go in the right way.  Here are pictures of picking plums.

Picking crabapples.

Here are Mr. Poyer and me.  He is my resident intern this year.

A couple of dogs got in the yard and killed our young hens.  We were sad.  We got some new baby chicks to take their place.  We got two Buff Orpingtons, two Blue Plymouth Rocks, and one Rhode Island Red.  The will all be brown egg layers.

Quickie Trip Down to the Valley

It had been a very long time since the dad and I went to Mesa to see Dad and Carlene.  We had planned to go down for Memorial Day,  but I got Covid a few days before we planned to leave, so we stayed home and were sick instead.  My whole four-and-a-half weeks of Summer Vacation came and went without us going down, so at the end of August, for our anniversary, we took a quickie trip down. We left after work and school on Friday.  We spent Friday Night with Amy, Cody and the boys.  And guess who gets the Grandma of the Year award for not taking a single picture of her grandkids while we were there. You guessed it!  This grandma right here.  We got up early Saturday Morning and went to an Endowment Session at the Phoenix Temple.  Fortunately, Amy took a picture and texted it to me.

We headed over to Mesa.  We picked up lunch at KFC, and we had a nice lunch a visited with dad and Carlene for a few hours.  Guess who did an epoch fail with the picture taking again.  Yep, you are right.
It was good to see them, but it made us kind of sad to know that our trips to see them will all just quick visits like that.  It has gotten too hard for them to have people stay with them now.

We went by the Mesa Temple.  It was closed for cleaning, but we did get pictures outside.  This is where we were married on August 25, 1982!

After we left Mesa, we went to Payson.  We stayed at a hotel there to celebrate our 42nd Anniversary!  I actually did remember to take pictures there.

We hiked a few hiking trails, and found a few geocaches!

This is where we ate dinner!

After church at Payson on Sunday, we did a few more geocaches before we hit the road for home.

It was a super quick, but fun weekend.  We need to make a point to go see Dad and Carlene more often while we still can,
