Whew! August has been one busy month. Here are a few of the catch-up happenings for now.
| Here is my crew this year. I've got a great little bunch! Hooray! It isn't always that way, that's for sure. |
| We wound up with peaches like crazy this year. The dad ordered a box of peaches from the Masons annual fundraiser. Sarah Mortensen was going over to Farmington to get peachers from Kerby Orchards, and took orders from folks in the ward. (I gave half of those to Brian and Chelsea.) And then Bill Lee gave some to the dad just because they are friends. (He's a Mason.) The peaches from the Masons weren't supposed to get here until the end of August. They came early, so all of the sudden we had a whole bunch of peaches all at once. We did them all one one Saturday. Of course, Peach Habanero Jam is a must! Here is the dad chopping the habaneros! |
| Stirring the jam. |
| Getting ready to go in the hot water bath. Does the hot water canner look familiar? In another life, it was a turkey fryer! |
| The dad says he's amortizing out the cost of the fryer. |
| After we finished all the canning, we took off to Winslow for Rosanna's Open House. (Steve, you think the Wedding Luncheon and Reception were, let's say.... different. You should have seen the Open House. |
| Uncle Jay and the dad are color-coordinated. |
| We got back late from Winslow. We cleaned up the jars, and here is our bounty! 28 jars of Peach Habanero jam, and 22 pints of peach pie filling (absolutely delicious!) |
| On Monday, for Family Home Evening, we made our harvested rhubarb into Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Filling and Strawberry Rhubarb Jam. |
| Remember all those wasps around the railroad ties on the Fourth of July week? Well, we finally found the nest. It was on the back of a rhubarb leaf. It's there no more. |
| Finishing up the jam and pie filling. |
We made easy peach jam and peach pear ginger freezer jam with the peaches you gave us! The peaches were so good! Thanks again!
