It's That Wonderful Time of the Year!

What is that wonderful time, you say?!?  It's Chile Roasting Time!  This year, the dad did most of it by himself, since he has Fridays off now.  This year we didn't freeze any.   We canned it all.  We got two bushels last year, and still had quite a bit in the freezer.  We're still having a hard time realizing that we only need to stock up for a family of two now.

The dad tried to capture the steam coming out of the box when he opened it up.  He got medium hot this year.  The didn't have any medium last year, so we got a sack of mild and a sack of hot.  The mild had no kick and not much flavor.  The hot was too hot for me to really enjoy.  (The dad liked it, though.)

He peeled almost the whole sack himself.  I got home from school, and I got the jars in the bottles.

The dad set up the pressure canning station in the garage so we wouldn't heat up the house as much by running two pressure cookers on a hot day.

On Saturday morning, we got up, did the regular Saturday stuff, and then we took off for McGaffey.  We hiked up to the Strawberry Tower in honor of Susan's birthday.  Remember the year we went there with the McMullins for Susan's birthday and got rained on?

We picked up a couple of geocaches along the way.

We hiked back down, and went home and continued the chile weekend with chile rellenos.  Man, they were good!

Here they are!  After we finished dinner, we made four dozen chile relleno burritos for the freezer!  All set for another year!
