Spring Break in American Fork!

For Spring Break this year, we went to American Fork to spend some time with Steve, Angela and Micah.  It was great to be with them in their home.  We are grateful that even though it feels like they are very far away, it really is only a day's drive to get there!  We very much enjoyed the visit, as usual!

We drove up to American Fork on National Quilting Day.  The dad offered to take me to a quilt shop along the way to celebrate!  We looked on the internet and decided to stop at a shop in Price.  We got there, and there was a mining lab at the address we had, and no quilt shop in sight, so we stopped for a geocache instead.  We found this one in a shotgun shell, and then we were back on the road again!

Here we all are dressed in green because it was St. Patrick's Day!  We had a lovely salad-in-a-jar lunch waiting for us when we got there! 

That afternoon, we all went on a walk to the Timpanogos Temple.  Micah and I walked around the temple and looked at all the flowers while the dad, Steve and Angela went in and did baptisms for a few names we found (or that found us).

Steven is crocheting an afghan.  My goodness, he is an amazing crocheter!  It's beautiful so far.  He also made a Ducky Mo Mo for Micah, and a really cool bag!  Who knew this talent was inside this man!  (I think Mapa knew!)

Amy's and Cody's first wedding anniversary was March 18.  We all went downstairs and took this picture for them by the wall that has their wedding decorations on it!

For Sunday dinner, we had delicious hot wings made in their Instant Pot.  It really is all about the food!

On Monday, Steve went to work, and the rest of us did some adventuring.  We took Aunt Mary out to lunch at a "millennial" soup and sandwich shop in Provo.  It was delicious!  (The dad has a hard time ordering food at "millennial" restaurants.

I think the restaurant is called Zupas.  A chocolate dipped strawberry came with each meal.  Micah really liked them!

After we took Mary home, we stayed and visited for awhile.  Then we went to the Bean Museum on campus.  It's more than twice as big as it was when we were students.  (It was brand  new then.)  It was like going to a zoo, and not having to hunt to spy the animals!

This was a taxidermy-ed snake on loan to the Bean Museum I think from the Smithsonian.  That's an alligator or crocodile being swallowed up.  That's how big it is.  That never should have happened.

The girl that worked there let Micah touch the animal skin...

...but he was not overjoyed at the experience.

Good news!  The Creamery is right next to the Bean Museum...

...which was a sign that we clearly needed ice cream!

On Tuesday, Steve took the day off.  We went to the Jordan River Temple Open house first thing in the morning!

I thought it was pretty cool that I also went to the Jordan River Temple's first open house back in 1981.  I can tell I'm getting old, because I still feel like it's a pretty new temple!  Well, actually, now it is!

After the temple, we went and changed clothes.  Then we went to eat at Moochies.  It is a restaurant that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on FoodTV.

We all split and ate Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches and Meatball Sandwiches.  Although they were really good, this is probably a one-time experience!  A little pricey, but we paid for the experience as well as the food!

It was a perfect windy day to fly kites.  There was a little play area by the field where we flew the kites, so Micah wanted to check that out first!

After kites at the park, we went to Kiwanis Park by Pleasant Grove and had a cookout!

We played Frisbee for awhile.  Micah loved it!  It looks like he just may be a Frisbee Golfer in the making!

Steve's boss gave them a super-dooper-Cadillac-of-all-hot-dog-cookers set.  You haven't lived until you've roasted hot dogs on cookers like those!

We also brought stuff for s'mores.  Well, at least we brought most of the stuff for s'mores.  Most of us prefer the stuff that goes in s'mores better separately than we do squished together, so that was not a problem.  Angela likes the whole s'more effect, so the grandad found a package of graham crackers (the forgotten ingredient) in the car, so all was well!

The next morning, we hit the road back to Gallup.  We stopped in Moab for a couple of hours and did some shopping at Walker Drug.  (We discovered it last time we went through Moab.)  They were having an 60th Anniversary Sale, so we got in on the freebies, the food, and the sales!  Then  we did some geocaching around town!

It was a very nice Spring Break for us.  We loved spending time together and with Steve, Angela and Micah.  Life is good.  This week, Susan is coming home for her Spring Break.  Brian, Chelsea and their crew are coming for General Conference.  Then a couple of weeks after that, we head to Phoenix to see Amy, Cody and their new home!  Life is good!
