Doug, Brian and I all got off for Veterans Day. Brian and Chelsea invited us over, and we gladly took them up on the offer! I was in the mood for an adventure, so we took off for Mesa Verde. It was a fun little adventure, even though many of the ruins were closed for the season and we only got to see them from afar instead of climbing or walking right up into them. We went over to Farmington on Thursday night, and we came home Friday after the adventure, since we had things we needed to take care of at home the rest of the night (ie, cleaning the church). The pictures are all out of order, but that doesn't really matter so much here.
| This is the Spruce Tree House. There had been rock slides in the area, so we couldn't go clear down to see it. |
| We did get close enough to get an Earth Cache here, though. |
| The selfie royalty are at it again! |
| This is a cache we found just outside of Mesa Verde. |
| This is Brian and David at their house either before the adventure began, or after we got back. I'm not sure. |
| David slept in the car a good portion of the way there, which was a blessing for him and for all of us. |
| Grandad was his favorite person of the day. |
| This was the Cliff House. |
| There was a Balcony House Earth Cache available, but to get it, you had to actually be able to go up into the Balcony House. The owner of the cache asked some questions and wanted pictures. If you couldn't answer them and show the pictures, he would delete your log. We showed him that we tried, and that the trail was closed. We answered his questions from the trail guide we bought. He deleted our logs any way. He was not a good sport. |
| David likes Grandad's walking stick! |
| We brought a picnic lunch with us. |
| The weather was perfect. It was a great day for a picnic! |
| We found a cache on the way home that had the best stuff I've ever seen in a cache! Fun! |
| Later in the weekend, we knocked off a couple more recipe books. This is Salamagundi (olden days Chef Salad). |
| Salmon with dill sauce |
| We have two copies of this recipe book. The dad made the best whole-wheat biscuits I think I've ever tasted from this recipe book. Who knew they made such good biscuits in Old Nauvoo! |
