Our Weekend in Review!

We love weekends around here, especially after school gets going.  We like milking every bit out of our Saturdays.

The dad got a big cub of bologna for his birthday.  (Something he wanted.)  He cut off a slab and made barbequed bologna.

He made arepa bread, and we had one-heck-of-a-bologna sandwich!

On Saturday, we got up early and hiked the hogback trail.   We had planned to hike to Pyramid Peak, but it's Ceremonial Weekend.  We couldn't even get to the trailhead.

While we were in Farmington last weekend, Chelsea and I (mostly Chelsea) solved a mystery clue that told us that if we found a Multi cache this weekend, we would earn a souvenier. A multi-cache is one that involves more than one step to find.  Brian and Chelsea earned theirs and sent me a screen shot of their congratulations in finding one.  We drove to Continental Divide and found our multi-cach3e.  

We didn't get a congratulations message, so I took a picture of this.

We went for a picnic back in the forest near the Continental Divide.  We played disc golf and had a picnic.  One of y'all showed me a button I could push on my camera that that would make it take a bunch of sequential pictures, so I tried it.  After the dad threw is Frisbee, he found that his phone holster had broken, and his phone was lying on the ground.  I CAPTURED A PICTURE OF IT FALLING!  HOW COOL IS THAT?

But with that feature, we were able to actually get pictures of the Frisbees in mid-air!

We saw this little bull snake that had a big bulge in its belly.  Wanna know what is more gross than a snake?  A snake with a bulge in its belly.

Picnic time!

When we got home, Lynn and Diane came and spent the evening and night with us on their way back from their big adventure to Montana, and then Mt. Rushmore!  They went to church with us on Sunday morning, then took off for their home in Holbrook.  It was a good evening!

The Winslow Deckers Came for a Visit!

After Susan finished her tests in Farmington, we came right home, because Jay, Jenny and their daughters were coming for a visit!  It's been a long time since they came for a weekend!  It was a nice visit!  I didn't realize that I really didn't know Janell or Sherry much at all.  It was nice to get to know them a little bit better.

Susan Took the Praxis in Farmington!

Susan wanted to retake two sections of the Praxis while she was home this summer, so she scheduled a time to take it in Farmington.  Of course, I went along for the rude.  Couldn't pass up the opportunity to see one of my grandbabies and his parents!

While Susan was taking her test, Chelsea, David and I went to retrace our steps on a WherIgo Cache that we did the night before.  Somehow it didn't enter correctly, so we tried again.  It started pouring, so we rushed into the bookstore and bought a couple of umbrellas!

The 2016 Row By Row Experience - I Won!

I hadn't actually planned to do a Row by Row quilt this year.  I just happened to walk into a quilt shop in Hobbs on the first day the Row kits were sold.  The sweet lady behind the cash register said, "Ah, you must be here for your Row by Row kit and license plate!"  She took me by surprise.  I found myself saying, "Yes," and so my "experience" began.

The whole Row by Row thing started a few years ago with only a few quilt shops participating.  It has grown to be huge now, with  most quilt shops participating.  The summer months are generally slow for quilt shops, so this is designed to get people into lots of quilt shops during their summer shops.  Each participating shop designs either a vertical or horizontal 9 1/2" by 36 1/2" row that goes along with the yearly theme.  They also have fabric licence plates to purchase unique to their own store.  This year's theme is "Home  Sweet Home." The first person that finishes at least 8 rows who quilts, binds and labels their quilt gets the prize.  Each participating quilt shop has one winner.  If that winner also has a row from that particiular store, they win an additional prize from that store.

I finished a ten block quilt, and I won the prize for Gallup Service Mart!  Did you read that?  I WON!  I had rows from Hobbs, Lovington, Lubbock, Albuquerque, Gallup, Holbrook, Flagstaff, Mesa and American Fork!

It was fun visiting all those stores, collecting the rows, and making the quilt.  It was a great summer project.  However, I don't think I'll ever do it again.  Once was definitely enough!

Susan Receives her Endowment!

Susan has been working and preparing for the past year to attend the temple.  She will be finishing up her classroom work at BYU-I in December, and then she will be heading to Las Vegas to do her student teaching.  She felt like she needed and was ready for the extra protection she can get from receiving those temple blessings.  The dad and I agree.  So did her bishop.

Brian and Chelsea came over to Gallup on Friday night.  So did Amy.  Then they drove to the temple in Albuquerque together after the dad, Susan and I left.  They were able to be with Susan.  Steve and Angela weren't able to be there, but they were with her when she got her temple clothing, so they were able to be a part of her experience that way.  Heather McMullin came, and so did Carol.  Carol wasn't feeling well, so she didn't stay for the pictures.

And of course, we picked up a cache before going home.  This was a special souvenier weekend.  Chelsea solved the mystery clues that helped us to know that if we found a cache this weekend that had more than 10 likes, we'd earn that souvenier.  Then she went online and found caches in the area that would qualify.  Amy found this one!  It was in some bushes lining the fence at Cliff's.  It was a toughie!
