The Dad Hikes Through the Zuni Mountains!

In the first week of September, I had to attend a meeting with the Forest Service.  This meeting was part of my work on the Mt. Taylor Landscape Team working on the Forest Master Plan.  There was a portion of the Zuni Mountains that is being considered for a Wilderness area called Little Water Canyon.  To get to a certain spring we had to hike into first Water Canyon, and then into Little Water Canyon.  It was a interesting hike with Wilderness advocates; ranchers and hunters, Forest Service personnel, and me.

Part of the hike we had to bushwhack using GPS for direction.  When we found the stream, we ate lunch and explored the canyon.  It was amasing to see a running stream in the Zuni Mountains in late summer during a drought.   It was an all day event and helped in making comments on the draft documents.
