Today was not only the last day of the school year, but it was the last day of Mr. Hartog's principalship at Red Rock. He has been my principal the whole time I've been teaching at Red Rock (with the exception of about three months at the beginning of my first year). He is retiring, and today was his last day of school in session. His actual last day will be in the middle of June, a couple of weeks after the students and teachers are long gone. He's been a very easy man to work for. The school has done well, and it's largely due to his leadership. We will all miss him a lot.
It was also the last school day for many of my good friends. They are retiring this year, too, because John is retiring. Dora Summy, Bertie Nichols, Erin Maynerich, and Priscilla Laurent are all leaving. A couple of others are leaving, but I don't know them as well. The whole feel of the school will be different next year. That isn't necessarily bad--just different. We shall see.

| The staff decorated Mr. Hartog's office and filled it full of balloonw! |
| We had a farewell assembly. The kids put on a musical program for him. He spoke to the kids for a bit afterwards. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. |
| He likes the quilt. |

| His wife REALLY likes the quilt. |
| Our whole first grade team is staying. I love these ladies. We work well together! |
