Labor Day Weekend is Green Chile Weekend!

As has been the Labor Day tradition around here for as long as I can remember, we did our green chile this weekend.  We bought our chile at Lowes this year, and surprise, surprise!  There was no line at all for roasting, so we went ahead and had it roasted.  The past couple of years we have roasted our own because we didn't want to wait in line two hours for roasting.  This year we lucked out!

The chile is filling the kitchen with wonderful smells already!

Susan and the dad enjoy a refreshing homemade prickly pear soda while they peel.

Here is some delicious chile ready for the freezer.  We also pressured eight half-pints.  We are kind of low of freezer space.

On Sunday, we made chile rellenos from some of the chile.  Dad was the fry-man.

My job was to batter the rellenos.

Susan stuffed the chile with cheese...

...and then she floured it.

Tasty and delicious as always!

On Monday, we made green chile relleno burritos for the freezer.  Green chile--the gift that keeps on giving!  We made 30 burritos for lunches this year.  Actually, I imagine we'll use a lot of them for meals when we take Suzu up to BYU-I next week!
